Immediate Openings in both Los Angeles and Lancaster Offices for Housing  Rights/Tenants’ Rights Trail Attorneys.

BASTA is always searching for full-time Attorneys for our Homelessness Prevention Project, which focuses on eviction defense litigation and trial work. We have openings in both our Los Angeles and Lancaster offices. The project is at the forefront of the next civil rights battlefield–the basic human need for safe, decent, and affordable housing.

The project is designed to ensure that persons without sufficient financial means have the same right to the same zealous legal representation as those persons who can afford private counsel. Attorneys will provide legal counsel, advice, and representation in jury trials to low-income individuals facing eviction, as well as work with an eviction defense team including attorneys, community affairs coordinators, and paralegals. Each of our eviction defense teams handles an extensive caseload related to unlawful detainer (eviction) matters. BASTA requests a jury trial in every single case that we handle, and Attorneys will join a rotation where they litigate (to verdict) an average of at least one jury trial per month.

The Staff Attorneys’ broad-based responsibilities will include: jury trials, general pre-trial litigation, case assessment, depositions, discovery, and general advocacy on behalf of our clients seeking to avoid eviction and homelessness. The Attorneys may also be participating in other projects related to improving housing rights for low-income tenants. BASTA helps tenants because we believe that, “The revolution begins in our homes.” If you are ready to use your legal education to actually help people and have fun doing jury trials like you see on television, please apply. We want to meet you, and the community needs you!
